    Default VC load out..

I struggled to find information as to how to set up a VC style load out. This is the route that I took from the limited information I was able to find online, it would seem that there are very few English speaking sites that are interested in the history and background of the NVA and VC.

The NVA and the VC were two separate entities working closely together. The North Vietnamese Army being the government funded army with official uniforms and structured divisions. The NVA were supported by the Chinese. They were heavily supplied by China, with training camps set up in China.

The Viet Cong were similar in structure to the French resistance, mostly indigenous civilians who were armed by the North Vietnamese government with weapons supplied again by China. The VC had no uniform as such and used a coloured scarf to identify each other. The scarf being white with a black grid patern and a red stripe.

The easy way to a NVA load out.
    1. Dark olive green boiler suit.
    2. Replica collar swatches.
    3. Replica AK chest rig.
    4. Replica NVA helmet, (which I then discarded because it was to small for my head. If you are of small stature it may well work for you)
option 2. replica officers style cap. Basically an olive green baseball hat with Vietnam badge on the front.
    5. Brown leather belt and replica belt holster.

All the above from fleabay and doable for under £100.

So now all we need is a venue and some US forces fight. Bring it on.

Largely correct I believe John, though I wouldn't overdo the Chinese connection - the 2 countries hated each other!

Type 56 rifles we more common that AKs, although the differences are minor.

The biggest problem with doing a VC loadout is not being Vietnamese It always looks slightly wrong on Europeans I feel. That said, we need more as everyone & their dog (me included) seems to do US

Nothing a bit of boot polish, PVA glue and pubic hair clippings can't sort!

If Team America can do it... so can Airsofters!

When I first started doing WW2 loadouts I wanted to do IJA. But I decided not to for that reason (well that alongside a lack of affordable IJA Rifs).

Having said that the gamble wouldnt cost as much for a VC loadout. A black karate suit, a conical hat, a SHIT load of thermal underwear and a communist gun with some lo-fi webbing might pass?

.. and maybe some kind of improvised face cover would improve the attempt.

I have never seen any evidence that they did, but I cannot claim definitively that they didn't

Generally just khaki battledress as seen even at the fall of Saigon

I remember reading a well resourced article that mentioned VC units of the 'Elite' variety using captured Tiger Stripe off dead US men. Makes sense tbh.

But why, oh why did I buy a AKS74U? No money for an M16 VN either.

Remembered that I have a huge VN book I will dig out... It is like a photographic journal I guess. Brilliant book.
